HISTORY

In 1984, Ms. Safia Shaikh started Shaikh’s Montessori, one of the leading early childhood education centres of the time. In 1990, Mr. Shahpur Jamall returned to Karachi after teaching in the Los Angeles Unified School district, with a M.Ed. from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA).

In August 1990, Ms. Shaikh and Mr. Jamall, with the support of their families, established Bay View Academy, initially established to provide a holistic education for students from Nursery to Class VI. Their goal was to create a student centered institution incorporating the latest teaching methods based on current educational research, encouraging growth and development of teachers and students alike. With the help of some extremely talented and enthusiastic teachers Bay View Academy quickly established itself as one of the leading educational institutions of Karachi. At the time the school functioned out of a small, rented house in Clifton, expanding to a second premises in the area in 1994 to meet the growing demand.

Ultimately, the school went on to include education to O-Levels and moved to its purpose-built Defence campus in 1999. The first graduating class secured excellent results in the 2003 O-Level examinations and gained admission to some of the best A-Level schools in Karachi and abroad.

With ever-increasing demand for its educational services and the return of close family members to Pakistan to help with the expansion of the school, Bay View opened the Clifton Campus in August 2013 and the PECHS campus in August 2015, each growing incrementally by one grade level a year.

In August 2004, Bay View Academy in collaboration with two other leading institutions, CAS and Froebels Education Center, established Southshore College, a school for A-Level studies. Ms. Shaikh and Mr. Jamall serve on the Board of Governors of Southshore.
